Working in an office offers up lots of perks from regular 9-5, Monday to Friday hours, to working with a team, and enjoying the office free coffee! One thing that isn’t so great about it though is that it is a sedentary type of work, which can lead down the path to a sedentary lifestyle which isn’t exactly a bonus for our health.
Many people in fact find that without a conscious effort, it is easy to lose form and pile on the pounds when they take on an office job, since compared to a lot of workplaces, there is a whole lot less movement going on. So it is time to help your office get fit!
A lot of people lack motivation to do exercise, so it is up to you to provide that motivation. It can be as simple as asking whether anyone wants to hit the gym, go a run or go a power walk during the lunch hour. When you’ve been exercising you’re more likely to make healthier food decisions too, so hit the treadmill before you eat!
If lunchtimes simply aren’t feasible, then why not trying to get people interested in going to fitness classes? From yoga to spinning, if you can set up evening sessions twice a week, then that can go a lot towards getting people to move more. Plus it is a great way to get to know your co-workers a bit better.
Office lunch rooms are notorious havens for unhealthy snacks that people kindly bring in. And while the thought and food is sweet, it’s not so great for our waistlines. With that in mind, why not bring in healthy snacks like fresh fruit, which everyone can enjoy.
With a little bit of effort on your part, and some small changes, you can set your office on the path to fitness.
